What is MeVu?
Yet another Social Networking site? No, not at all. MeVu is a "helper" for those who use social networking sites, or in fact, any types of sites on which you have a presence or profile.
What kind of helper, you ask? Well, the thought came to me to develop this site when my son, a musician with profiles and pages on many sites like YouTube, Myspace, iTunes, and his own web sites, came to me and asked, "Which one of my sites do you think I should place in the 'My Website' field of Youtube?" I asked him, "they only give you room for one?" That's when the brainstorm hit. Why not a create site where the millions of people who have social lives on the internet can easily make one page on which all their web presences are listed? Then, take the address for that one page (like MeVu.com/johnny) and plug it into the "my website" field.
And that's just what we did at MeVu. Anyone can create their own single page of all the places they live on the net. And when you join a new site, simply come to MeVu to make the change in one place, not on every page you exist.
This single point of change is what makes MeVu so powerful, even if you have plenty of room on each of your pages to list all your other pages. Who really wants to keep dozens of pages updated, and for that matter, cluttered with information on where else to be found?
And the structure and content is completely up to you. You create whatever categories for your links you wish and order them as you wish. Within them, you create your links in any order you like. It's all Ajax-driven and logically designed, making changes is quick and easy.
A typical MeVu member might have categories named Social Networks, Video Sharing, Bookmarking, Photos, and My Blogs. But there are other uses too. You might be a musician with the categories My Website, My Music Retail Pages, My Fan Clubs, and My Music Videos. You might be a web designer with the categories My Portfolio Sites and My Freelance Site Profiles. You might be an artist with My Website, My Galleries, Stores Selling My Art, and My Art Forum Profiles. The uses are endless.
In addition, you page links can show previews of any RSS feeds the page contains. Plus, you can optionally show your name, your IM handles, a freeform About Me section, a secure Contact Me form, and other goodies.
And Facebook too! And last but not certainly least, we have a
Facebook Application that will insert all of your categories and links, all in the order you created here, into your Facebook profile page. You are in control of the description's length to include, if any.
